  • Travel to and from Australia for five years from the date the visa is granted, post which the visa can be extended.

Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189)

What is the visa for?

This visa is designed for skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer, state, or territory. It allows them to live and work permanently anywhere in Australia.

What are the different streams?
  • Points-Tested Stream: For applicants who meet the points test based on factors like age, education, work experience, and English proficiency.
  • New Zealand Stream: For NZ citizens who have demonstrated contribution to Australia.

What is the visa for?

This visa is for individuals who have lived and worked in designated regional areas on a qualifying visa and now seek permanent residency.

  • Have lived for at least 3 years in a designated regional area.

What is the visa for?

This permanent visa is for individuals who have lived and worked in specified regional areas of Australia on a previous, eligible visa. It allows them to transition to permanent residency.

What are the selection criteria?
  • Hold an eligible visa, such as Subclass 489, 495, 496, 475, or 487, or a Bridging Visa A or B after applying for a subclass 489, 495, or 487 visa.

  • Have lived for at least 2 years in a specified regional area.

  • Have worked full-time for at least 1 year in a specified regional area.

  • Meet health and character requirements.

Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 188)

What is the visa for?

This provisional visa is for individuals seeking to own and manage a new or existing business in Australia, conduct business and investment activity, or undertake entrepreneurial activities.

What are the different streams?
  • Business Innovation Stream: For people with business skills who want to establish, develop, and manage a new or existing business in Australia.
  • Investor Stream: For individuals who are willing to invest a designated amount in an Australian state or territory and maintain business and investment activity.
  • Significant Investor Stream: For those investing at least AUD 5 million into complying significant investments in Australia.
  • Entrepreneur Stream: For individuals undertaking, or proposing to undertake, entrepreneurial activities in Australia.
What are the selection criteria?
  • Nomination by an Australian state or territory government agency or Austrade.
  • Invitation to apply after submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI).
  • Meet specific requirements relevant to the chosen stream, such as business turnover, net assets, investment amounts, or funding agreements.
  • Demonstrate a successful business or investment career.
  • Meet health and character requirements.
What does this visa allow the candidate to do?
  • Stay in Australia for up to 5 years.

  • Establish a new or develop an existing business, or make designated investments in Australia.

  • Bring eligible family members to Australia.

Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) Visa (Subclass 888)

What is the visa for?

This permanent visa allows individuals who hold a provisional Business Innovation and Investment visa (Subclass 188) to continue owning and managing a business in Australia, or to continue an investment activity in Australia.

What are different streams?
  • Business Innovation Stream: For individuals who have established and operated a business in Australia under the Subclass 188 visa.
  • Investor Stream: For individuals who have maintained a designated investment in Australia for four years under the Subclass 188 visa.
  • Significant Investor Stream: For individuals who have held a complying significant investment in Australia for at least four years under the Subclass 188 visa.
  • Premium Investor Stream: For individuals who have held a complying premium investment in Australia for at least one year under the Subclass 188 visa.
  • Entrepreneur Stream: For individuals who have carried out entrepreneurial activities in Australia under the Subclass 188 visa.
What are the selection criteria?
  • Hold a provisional Subclass 188 visa in the relevant stream.

    Business Innovation Stream:

  • Owned and operated a business in Australia for at least two years.

  • Met the asset and employment requirements.

    Investor Stream:

  • Maintained a designated investment of AUD 1.5 million for four years.

  • Met the asset and employment requirements.

  • Lived in Australia for at least two of the four years.

    Significant Investor Stream:

  • Held a complying investment of AUD 5 million for at least four years.

  • Met residency requirements.

    Premium Investor Stream:

  • Invest a higher amount in Australian ventures towards innovative projects and growth-oriented sectors including venture capital funds, startups etc.
